Over time the cut edges of metal sheets de-laminate, this exposes the sheet metal underneath. When exposed the metal flakes and corrodes further delaminating the sheets.

If left to deteriorate the sheet edges will slowly recede exposing the internal  Bartley Cadnam roof structure and causing leaks, at this point the roof is not repairable.

Cut edge corrosion is often worse at the perimeter of the roof at the gutter line, it is also most problematic here as when the corrosion is advanced the edges of the sheets recede past the point of the gutter causing water to flow directly off the edges of the sheets and directly into the building.
